Sakura Blossoms: A Ladies Japanese Interest Club

Welcome to Sakura Blossoms!

Posted by: Kyoki on: January 18, 2009

sakura-blossom-iconWelcome to Sakura Blossoms Spokane, the blog for the Sakura Blossoms Japanese Interest Club located in Spokane Washington.

If you’re here, then you are likely interested in anime, manga, Japanese culture, cosplay, Japanese cooking, or bento packing. If you’re not into those, then you’re probably here because you’re curious.

That’s okay! Any of those reasons are great. We’re just glad you stopped by!

Sakura Blossoms is an interest club dedicated to Japanese… stuff. Anime, manga, Sanrio, bento, and a myriad of other things are up for discussion here!

Founded because myself and Dragonsama (the other author of this blog) were looking around the Spokane Valley and area for other girls and women to hang out with, who would be interested in the same sorts of things we are. That is to say, video games, the aforementioned anime and manga, and in general an interest in Japan. Not finding anything, we decided to start our own.

If you’re into any of the above, are mature and respectful, and above all fun-loving with a good sense of humor, then this might be the place for you!

July Movie Night

Posted by: Dragonsama on: July 11, 2009

Hi guys! I know it’s really early in the month, but I’m hoping that maybe if we post really early about movie night that, well… someone will come.

Kyoki is currently away [tae kwon do camp, nifty!] so Dragonsama is taking a bit of liberty in naming the 31st as movie night! No idea what movie we’ll be watching yet.. anyone have suggestions?

Please try to come! ^_^ Email or comment with questions!

Table, Events, and updates

Posted by: Kyoki on: May 19, 2009

So, here, I’m thinking about what to do this upcoming few months. I’d like to have a table at Otaku-Con to get new members. I know movie nights will continue- the next one is the 29th, don’t forget! Around five or six PM, here at our house (RSVP for more information) and bring snacks if you want them! There’s also the idea to go out for kareoke, but that costs money and we try to make our events as free as we can.

Any suggestions?

Update

Posted by: Kyoki on: May 14, 2009

So, there was no turnout for the picnic at Manito, but we went anyway! It turned out there was no food allowed in the Japanese gardens, so we ate at the main pavilion instead.
We’re pleased to say that the next event is the Movie Night on the last Friday of the month, at 6pm.  Movie is still TBD, any suggestions?
There is also an anime convention coming to Spokane the first weekend in August! Sakura Blossoms would love to have a table- barring that, lets just meet up and have some cosplay and laughing!

Tables are ten bucks and we’d need someone to help man then- it’s Monday and Tuesday, the 3rd and 4th.

Just a Quick Reminder

Posted by: Kyoki on: May 1, 2009

Tomorrow at 3pm is our picnic at Manito Park, in the Japanese Gardens!

Tree Watch Update: Blossoms

Posted by: Kyoki on: April 28, 2009

There appear to be buds and blooms on the cherry and plum trees in the Japanese gardens- but we are not allowed to picnic beneath them. Therefore, I will be investigating what trees are in the Arboretum, and if there are cherry trees there, we shall picnic under THEM!

Barring that, we shall picnic in the Japanese gardens and just look at the trees from a safe and secure location out of respect for the tiny bamboo fence that is letting the grass regrow after a nasty winter.

Look for us this Saturday afternoon! Lets say at 3pm Saturday at the Manito Park Japanese Gardens!

And as always, RSVP at sakurablossomsspokane@gmail.com

Plotting is afoot!

Posted by: Dragonsama on: April 26, 2009

Kyoki and I have an idea: Why not have a picnic under the trees we’re somewhat named for?

We’re not sure yet when this picnic will take place, as we’re not sure when the cherry trees in Manito Park will bloom, but we plan to investigate soon and let you guys know! ^_^

As always, let us know if you want to come along by sending us an email.  Expect updates in this post for Tree Watch news!

Movie Night Update: April

Posted by: Kyoki on: April 20, 2009

The April Movie Night is on the 24th, this coming Friday. It may be canceled, if we don’t get any RSVP’s, but that won’t stop us from scheduling something in May!

The beautiful weather is holding, and we’re visiting Manito Park regularly to see what blooms and when- they have to have at least one cherry tree somewhere in that place!

Friday’s movie, if nothing else happens, will be Howl’s Moving Castle (subject to change if we can get our hands on the rest of Ghost In A Shell), and snacks are probably going to be simple unless someone brings some.

We’re looking for new members, actively searching! Ladies, if you’re interested in anything Japanese, please come our direction! We’d love to see you and have some fun.

Pictures and a new page!

Posted by: Dragonsama on: April 1, 2009

It’s been a while since I made a post, huh?

It’s not that I forgot or anything.. not for long.. But I didn’t have much to say ^^; Nothing -relevant-, anyway..

Moving on!

I do, in fact, have two pictures from our last Movie Night. They are only of the muffins I made. ^^;;  The little muffins happened to make a flower shape, so I had to take a picture! [And the second picture is of the muffin that didn't quite have a place in the first picture, so I took a picture of it sitting all lonely on the counter... then I ate it.]

The flower of muffins!

The flower of muffins!

The lonely muffin, shortly before its demise.

The lonely muffin, shortly before its demise. Nom.

We recently received a comment, asking if we knew a good place to buy manga, anime, and magazines.  Dragonsama, in her questing for employment, has been to quite a few areas in town and [it must be confessed] stared longingly at a good number of manga shelves [and food. She misses being able to buy food.] Sadly, she hasn’t been to many DVD places to poke in their anime sections. [She is also not certain which magazines Miss Candi wished to know about.. and is talking in the third person again.]

A few locations for the purchasing of stuff is on a shiny new page! It will be constantly worked on and added to when I remember to look when out and about. ^_^

Also, Sakuracon would be nifty.. If it wasn’t all far away and expensive and such. I do miss being the glowstick fairy at raves…

Uhh… the end! ^_^ [Geez, I'm long-winded..]
